26 Mar, 2026

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS, the Office of the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Liberia hosted a one-day Senior High Schools Quizzing Competition on March 18, 2026, in Kakata City. The event brought together six schools from across the region for a rigorous contest of knowledge, critical thinking, and academic excellence.

Organized in partnership with the Liberia Media for Democratic Initiative (LMDI), a respected non-governmental organization with over a decade of experience in facilitating national debates and civic engagement, the competition aimed to foster intellectual rigor among students while raising awareness of national and regional issues.

Her Excellency, Josephine Nkrumah, ECOWAS Resident Representative to Liberia, addressed the gathering of approximately 300 students, teachers, and government officials, emphasizing the significance of the organization’s golden jubilee.

“This competition was designed not only as a celebratory activity but as a platform to promote academic excellence, critical thinking, and intellectual engagement among young people,” Ambassador Nkrumah said. “We encourage you to use knowledge, creativity, and innovation as tools for shaping a brighter future for our region.”

Following a series of competitive preliminary rounds, St. Christopher Catholic High School and Lango Lippaye High School advanced to the final stage. In a closely contested final match, Lango Lippaye High School emerged as the overall champion, with St. Christopher Catholic High School named as the worthy runners-up.

In a commitment to supporting educational infrastructure, each participating school was presented with solar-powered lights to enhance visibility and improve the learning environment on their campuses. All students who participated received Certificates of Participation. Additionally, in celebration of their victory, each member of the winning team was awarded a Blackview tablet to encourage continued academic achievement.

The event concluded with a call to strengthen inter-school relationships and invest in youth intellectual growth as a cornerstone for national human capital development and regional integration.
