Dr Abdoulie Janneh, Head of the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission (EOM) in Guinea, continues his meetings to take stock of preparations for the presidential election on 28 December 2025.
27 Dec, 2025As part of preparations for the 28 December 2025 election, Dr Abdoulie Janneh met on Friday 26 December 2025 with H.E. Dansa Kourouma, President of Guinea’s National Transition Council (CNT), and civil society actors. On Saturday, 27 December 2025, the eve of the election, he met with the heads of the election observation missions of the African Union, the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the Mano River Union, and the Group of Ambassadors of ECOWAS Member States accredited to Guinea.
During his discussions with the President of the CNT, Guinea’s legislative body, Dr Janneh called for transparent, free and credible elections, which are essential for the acceptance of the results by the competing candidates, thereby contributing to the preservation of social peace and stability in the country.
With representatives from the National Council of Guinean Civil Society Organisations (CNOSCG), the National Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CONASOC), the domestic election observation mission known as ‘Dynamique Œil du Citoyen’ (Citizen’s Eye), the Network of Civil Society Organisations for Election Observation and Monitoring (ROSE) and the Citizen Platform for a Unified and Democratic Transition (PCUD). The Head of the ECOWAS EOM inquired about the preparations for the observation of the presidential election by Guinean civil society.
The Civil society organisations present mentioned being committed, alongside ECOWAS, to assessing the impartiality, transparency and compliance with democratic standards of the presidential election.
Dr Janneh praised the important role played by civil society organisations in monitoring the electoral process and encouraged them to support all the bodies involved and political actors to ensure that voting and the announcement of results take place under the best possible conditions.
