ECOWAS group at the united nations holds monthly coordination meeting

ECOWAS GROUP AT THE UNITED NATIONS HOLDS MONTHLY COORDINATION MEETING, HONOURS AMB FATIMA KYARI MOHAMMED OUTGOING PERMANENT OBSERVER OF AFRICAN UNION TO THE UN AND WELCOMES AMB. MOHAMMED IDRISS, NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF AU TO THE UN

The ECOWAS Group at the United Nations on Friday, 29th August 2025 held its monthly Group meeting, coordinated by the Permanent Observer Mission of ECOWAS to the United Nations and chaired by its new Chair, H.E. Amb. Michael Imran Kanu, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the United Nations.

The  meeting which held at the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the UN discussed current Social, Economic and Political developments in West Africa, received Regional and Country briefs and considered plans for Joint actions and engagements of ECOWAS Member States in the upcoming 80th Session of the UN General Assembly(UNGA80) scheduled to hold from 22nd – 30th September 2025.

The ECOWAS Group also seized the occasion to host a Farewell dinner in honour of the outgoing Permanent Observer of the African Union, H.E. Amb. Fatima Kyari-Mohammed whose tour of duty came to a successful end in New York in July 2025, and welcomed the new Permanent Observer of the African Union to the United Nations, H.E. Amb. Mohamed Idriss who assumed Office in August 2025.
