ECOWAS Permanent Representatives Committee Members hold consultations in Abuja
03 Dec, 2025The 4th meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was held on Monday, 1 December 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.
The meeting was chaired by the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E. Julius Sandy, whose country currently holds the Chairmanship of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the regional Organization.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Julius Sandy emphasized the importance of the PRC as the advisory organ of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers.
During the session, members of the ECOWAS Permanent Representatives Committee exchanged views on the suspension of Guinea-Bissau from the regional Organization following the coup d’état that occurred in the country on 28 November 2025, and also examined the final report of their 3rd meeting.
The meeting further enabled participants to receive briefings from the ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Dr. Kalilou Sylla, and members of his team on regional economic integration, the state of progress toward the introduction of the ECOWAS single currency in 2027, public debt within the Community space, and the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS).
It will be recalled that it was in July 2023, in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, that the ECOWAS Council of Ministers designated the PRC as its advisory body, thereby strengthening its role in the management of Community affairs.
