22 Sep, 2025

The Technical Observation Mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has observed the Constitutional Referendum in Guinea, held today, September 21, 2025.

ECOWAS deployed a technical mission, comprising eleven (11) experts from the Electoral Commissions of Member States, supported by a technical team from the ECOWAS Commission, to observe the voting. The mission was deployed to the administrative regions of Conakry, Kindia, Mamou, Labé, and Kankan.

After observing the voting process in Conakry, His Excellency Louis-Blaise AKA-BROU, Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission to Guinea, accompanied by Mr. Serigne Mamadou KA, Acting Head of the Electoral Assistance Division, noted that voting materials were available at polling units before the opening of the polls. He further observed that the process was conducted in a generally peaceful and calm atmosphere.

As part of its consultations, the ECOWAS Mission visited the Situation Room of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) to exchange observations and assessments from the field.

Today’s referendum marks an important step toward the restoration of constitutional order. While awaiting the official announcement of the results, ECOWAS remains committed to accompanying the people and Government of Guinea throughout the transitional process.
