ECOWAS Department of Economic Affairs and Agriculture sets strategic direction at Niger State retreat

14 Apr, 2025

The Department of Economic Affairs and Agriculture of the ECOWAS Commission successfully concluded a three-day strategic retreat held from 7 to 9 April 2025 at Zuma Rock, Niger State, Nigeria.

The objective of the retreat was to assess progress, strengthen coordination, and define strategic priorities for the years ahead, and it had in attendance the Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs. Massandjé TOURE-LITSE, Directors, technical experts, and support staff from all Directorates and Specialised Agencies under the Department.

Discussions focused on aligning departmental initiatives with ECOWAS Vision 2050 and the 4×4 Strategic Objectives, which emphasise governance, peace and security, economic integration, connectivity, and social inclusion. Participants reviewed achievements from 2022 to 2024, evaluated departmental work plans for 2025–2026, and deliberated on critical preparations for the 50th Anniversary of ECOWAS and the Summit of the Future.

Sessions included presentations of major activities carried out by each Directorate and Agency, experience-sharing on challenges and best practices, and strategic discussions on resource mobilisation and coordination. The retreat also provided a platform to develop actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing implementation, coherence, and impact.

Among the key outcomes were improved alignment of departmental activities with institutional goals, enhanced collaboration across Directorates, and a renewed commitment to delivering tangible results that support regional integration and economic development across the ECOWAS Region.
