Visit by H.E. José Maria Pereira Neves, President of Cabo Verde, to the ECOWAS Commission: Cabo Verde remains firmly committed, alongside other Member States, to a strong, stable, and prosperous ECOWAS

H.E. José Maria Pereira Neves, President of Cabo Verde, during his visit to the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, reaffirmed the commitment of his country, alongside other Member States, to making ECOWAS region stronger, more stable, more prosperous, and better integrated for the benefit of the population.

“We will contribute to making the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), our common organization, more modern and more effective in facing the challenges of the moment…” said H.E. José Maria Pereira Neves.

Upon his arrival at ECOWAS Headquarters, President José Maria Pereira Neves was welcomed by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Omar Alieu Touray, with whom he discussed relations between his country and the West African regional organization, as well as regional political developments, including relations with AES member countries namely Burkina, Mali and Niger.

President Touray briefed his guest on the status of negotiations with ESA member countries and the important ECOWAS meetings to be held in the coming days and months, and requested Cabo Verde’s full participation in these important meetings for the future of the Community.

H.E. José Maria Pereira Neves congratulated the ECOWAS authorities for their efforts to promote the well-being of the region’s populations and the achievement of the Organization’s Vision 2050. He informed H.E. Omar Alieu Touray of his regular contacts with the current Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government, H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, as well as with other Heads of State with a view to establishing good relations of trust with the member countries of the AES. “Together with the other Heads of State in the region, I am firmly committed to cooperating and working to preserve and strengthen relations conducive to maintaining peace, stability, and security in West Africa,” said H.E. José Maria Pereira Neves.
