On the 21st of July 2025, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, through its Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Arab Republic of Egypt, led by His Excellency Dr Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two parties.

The meeting took place at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security. The two parties reaffirmed their joint commitment to promoting peace, security and sustainable development in the West African region.

Discussions focused on ongoing political transitions, regional security challenges, and ECOWAS’s strategic role in implementing the free movement of people, goods and services, particularly in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

ECOWAS highlighted its current priorities in terms of regional integration, including the consolidation of peace through effective mediation mechanisms, the development of the agricultural and infrastructure sectors, and the promotion of the private sector as a lever for inclusive growth.

Minister Abdelatty praised ECOWAS’s ongoing commitment to regional stability and expressed Egypt’s willingness to further strengthen its collaboration with the organisation through constructive dialogue and concrete, viable partnerships.

The Egyptian delegation also included Ambassador Mohammed Fouad, Mr Tamim Khallaf, Counsellor Ahmed Moharram, Mr Hussein Shoukry and Third Secretary Marc Hani.
