Biography

His Excellency Oluwatosin Anthony OGUNJIMI has been, since 1 September 2026, the Vice-President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission for the 2026–2030 term of office. He is a seasoned international public servant, diplomat, and regional integration expert with over 20 years of experience supporting the ECOWAS mandate through multilateral diplomacy, strategic alliances, peacebuilding, and socio-economic development initiatives across West Africa. Born on 28 November 1976 in Kaduna, Kaduna State. Oluwatosin hails from the OGUNJIMI family, philanthropists originally from Shagamu, Ogun State, and based in Lagos State.

He attended the British Diplomatic Academy, the University of Westminster, and London Guildhall University, where he obtained a master’s degree in Diplomatic Studies, pursued an MA in British and European Politics, Specialize in America Foreign Policy, NATO and earned a Postgraduate Diploma in International Law, International Trade and Finance, as well as Diplomacy in Islam at the University of Westminster, London.

To broaden his knowledge and intellectual capacity, he frequently attends trend-driven and economically stimulating lectures at Lagos Business School (Pan Atlantic University) and Diplo Academy (established by the governments of Malta and Switzerland), which specialise in developing diplomats’ skills to enhance global governance and international policy development.

Oluwatosin’s areas of specialisation include Diplomacy Management, Multilateral Diplomacy & Intergovernmental Relations, Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation, Strategic Alliances and Technical Cooperation, Organisational Development, Institutional Capacity Strengthening, Performance Management, Networking and Negotiation, Budgetary Planning, Capacity Development and Resource Mobilisation, Mainstreaming, Strategic Planning, and Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as Administration and Financial Strategy.

Prior to becoming Vice-President of the Commission, H.E. Oluwatosin worked with the ECOWAS Commission, Office of the President, within External Relations as the Head of Multilateral Cooperation, fostering equitable partnerships with stakeholders. He previously served in the Vice President’s office under the Directorate of Strategic Planning, collaborating closely with the directorate from 2010 to 2020 as a consultant. He played a pivotal role in the development of Nine strategic documents for ECOWAS, including the formulation of Agenda 2063 and its integration into the ECOWAS programme, as well as the First Ten-Year Implementation Plan 2014-2023 for Agenda 2063.

During this period, he worked closely with stakeholders at ECOWAS, serving as the focal person and representative for ECOWAS with the African Union, World Bank, UNDP, UN Economic Commission for Africa, IDEPA, EU, DFID, GIZ, AU/NEPAD, and the West Africa Civil Society Organization Forum (WACSOF) to develop strategic documents and strengthen institutional capacity. As Chair of the ECOWAS Peace Fund Technical Committee in 2025, he successfully raised nearly USD 1 million for Nigeria, securing the country’s first Peace Fund–supported project focused on emergency livelihoods, peacebuilding, and post-conflict recovery.

In his early career, Oluwatosin was fortunate to work with the three-time best sales representative at Mobil Exxon in Nigeria from 1995 to 1999. Between 2012 and 2015, he worked with the Senior Assistant to the Minister of Finance in Nigeria and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy on two major projects: Project Act Nollywood and The Youwin Programme, in partnership with the World Bank and DFID, respectively. Additionally, he served as the chairman of the UAC residential estate in Abuja from 2012 to 2020 and as chairman of the PTA at Doveland School (2014-2015, 2016-2017).

Throughout his career, he has developed sound political judgment, diplomatic acumen, and a strong commitment to the principles of regional solidarity, accountability, and international public service. I bring robust executive management skills, the ability to work across diverse political and cultural contexts, and a results-oriented approach to advancing sustainable development, stability, and integration in the ECOWAS region.
