NIGCOY 10 ECOMIG HOLDS MEDAL PARADE IN THE GAMBIA

The Nigeria Company 10 (NIGCOY 10) ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) were honoured with the ECOMIG Medal in a colourful ceremony on Wednesday 22 April 2026 in Yundum. The ECOMIG Medal was awarded to Officers and Men of the Contingent in recognition of their unblemished commitment to duty, maintaining democracy, peace and stability in The Gambia.

In his opening remarks, the Nigerian Contingent Commander Lieutenant Colonel SA Agada, noted that the Contingent was inducted into the mission on 1 July 2025. NIGCOY 10 comprises of Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force personnel. He stated that the Contingent have worked tirelessly in conjunction with other ECOMIG Contingent and the Gambia Defence and other Security Forces in achieving the ECOWAS mandate in The Gambia. He further reaffirmed the Contingent’s commitment to upholding the ECOWAS Mission Mandate.

The Force Commander ECOMIG, Colonel Aliou Tine, while delivering his speech, commended the Contingent for serving diligently and professionally in the mission area, and also for being proud and worthy Ambassadors of ECOWAS. He applauded the Contingent Civil-Military Cooperation initiatives to the host communities and urged the troops to always remain steadfast in discharging their duties.

Furthermore, the Minister of Interior Republic of the Gambia, Honourable Abdoulie Sanyang, expressed the appreciation of His Excellency, the President, Government officials and people of The Gambia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for always supporting The Gambia. He also acknowledged the sacrifice, professionalism and unwavering commitment of the Contingent in ensuring peace and stability in The Gambia.

The Special Guest of Honour, Her Excellency Madam Miatta Lilly French, ECOWAS Special Representative and Head of Mission in The Gambia, while delivering the key note address commended the Contingent for their professionalism, operational commitment and strong Civil-Military Cooperation. She urged the troops to always remain professional and steadfast to upholding the ECOWAS mandate and the pursuit of sustainable peace globally.

The Medal Parade was attended by dignitaries including, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Top Governmental Officials, Leadership of the Gambia Security and Defence Forces, Head of Security Agencies, other ECOMIG Contingent Commanders, Members of the Academia, Chief Executives and Captains of Indutries among others.

Highlights of the event included, Silent Drill display, Decoration of personnel with ECOMIG Medals, Cutting of Cake, Gambia Armed Forces Band and the Nigerian Contingent unity cultural dance displays among others.
