ROLE OVERVIEW

Under the Supervision of the Principal Program Officer Natural Resources, the incumbent will be Contributing to the creation of a sub-regional institutional and legal environment conducive to the implementation of the ECOWAS Sub-Regional Action Program to Combat Desertification (SRAP). Assist the Head of Division in the implementation of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements and related protocols.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist alignment of the SRAP to Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Strategy.
  • Facilitate coordination and development of LDN regional targets and Observatory.
  • Assist in the development of regional initiatives projects and or programs to support Member States in the implementation of Sub Regional Action Programme to Combat Desertification in West Africa (SRAP) including LDN.
  • Contribute to the capacity building through training of the Member States for the implementation of their national LDN plans.
  • Provide support to build capacity of Member States in developing common positions for the negotiations prior to the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
  • Support the development a regional platform for SLM knowledge management.
  • Contribute to the formulation, implementation and monitoring of transformative projects combining various partners with different sources of funding and procedures.
  • Support Resource Mobilization for SRAP-LDN implementation.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate measures, mechanisms, and legislations to facilitate the implementation of the programme on the landscape restoration, the Land Degradation Neutrality and fighting droughts.
  • Contribute to the development of partnerships and alliances at local, national, sub-regional and international levels, and contributing towards international Forest Landscape Restoration initiatives.
  • Contribute to the monitoring-evaluation of the implementation of SRAP-LDN.

 

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·       Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or related fields from a university of recognized standing.

·       5 years of relevant professional responsible experience dealing with environment issues.

·       Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to corporate sustainability and environment.

·       Proven experience in technical guidance, situation analysis and environmental impact assessments;

·       Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter.

·       Fluency in oral and written expressions in one of the ECOWAS official languages of the Community (English, French & Portuguese). Knowledge of an additional one will be an added advantage.
