In Cote d’Ivoire, ECOWAS trains women entrepreneurs in financial education and donates tricycles to them for transporting foodstuffs.

The ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development (EGDC), in collaboration with the GIZ EAT project, has rolled out a series of financial education training courses for women processors and traders of cross-border agricultural products, as well as the delivery of tricycles to facilitate the cross-border transport of foodstuffs in good conditions of hygiene and cleanliness, from the 1^st to 5^th of December 2025 in Abidjan.

The aim of the training, organised as part of the implementation of the EAT project, is to improve basic financial literacy, business management, the importance of loans and repayments, and insurance options among women traders. The aim is to contribute to the achievement of ECOWAS’s 4X4 strategic objectives through the creation of a fully integrated and interconnected economic region and a community that is fully inclusive of women, children and young people.

This training course, which culminated in the presentation of tricycles, was attended by women cross-border traders from the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.

The official ceremony was enhanced by the presence of the President of the Abidjan Chamber of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Crops, the Ministry of Women, Family and Children, the Resident Director of GIZ in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and the representative of the Director of the ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development.
