ECOWAS SUPPORTS BACCALAUREATE CANDIDATES IN THIÈS, SENEGAL, THROUGH A DAY OF REVISION AND COACHING UNDER THE “ECOWAS CONNECT” PROGRAMME

As part of the third phase of the “ECOWAS Connect” programme, launched by the Directorate of Communication of the ECOWAS Commission, the ECOWAS Club of Iba Der Thiam University in Thiès organized a large-scale revision and coaching session on 25 June 2026 for final-year secondary school students preparing for the baccalaureate examination in the city of Thiès.

Held at the Manufacture des Arts Décoratifs de Thiès, the initiative forms part of the ongoing community outreach activities carried out by ECOWAS Clubs to promote civic engagement, human capital development, and regional integration among young people across West Africa.

Following an extensive awareness campaign conducted by members of the ECOWAS Club—including visits to secondary schools and a strong mobilization effort on social media—dozens of prospective baccalaureate candidates participated in the event, which was dedicated to knowledge-sharing and academic excellence.

The revision session was led by Mr. Sall, a Philosophy teacher, and Mr. Arona Niang, a History and Geography teacher. Building on the successful pedagogical approach previously implemented during an earlier phase of the programme in Ziguinchor, the facilitators combined personal development coaching aimed at strengthening students’ self-confidence with structured revision sessions covering the main topics in the Philosophy, History, and Geography curricula.

Through this participatory and interactive approach, students benefited from effective study techniques, practical advice, and high-quality academic guidance, enabling them to approach the baccalaureate examinations with greater confidence and peace of mind.

At the conclusion of the session, the ECOWAS Club provided packed meals to all participants before a group photograph was taken to commemorate this day of solidarity and commitment to academic success.

This activity followed the solidarity day organized at the National Institute for the Education and Training of Blind Youth (INEFJA) in Thiès, during which the ECOWAS Club officially inaugurated the Institute’s ECOWAS Club. Together, these initiatives reflect the ECOWAS Commission’s determination to place young people at the heart of the regional integration agenda by providing them with opportunities for learning, dialogue, civic engagement, and solidarity.

Through the “ECOWAS Connect” programme implemented by its Directorate of Communication, the ECOWAS Commission continues to advance its vision of “an ECOWAS of the People” by bringing Community institutions closer to citizens and empowering young people to become genuine drivers of regional integration, peace, innovation, and sustainable development in West Africa.
