The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, through the Directorate of Peacekeeping and Regional Security (DPKRS) and its Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD), convened the Third Annual Training on Operational-Level Logistics in ECOWAS Peace Support Operations (PSO) from 3 to 7 November 2025 in Lagos, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The training is designed to strengthen the capacity of personnel to effectively plan, manage, and implement logistics functions within ECOWAS Peace Support Operations, with particular emphasis on deployment planning, mission sustainment, and liquidation procedures.

The opening ceremony was chaired by the Representative of the Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, Mr. Bekaye Coulibaly, Head of the Civilian Component. Also in attendance was the Commandant of the Nigeria College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), Major General Adewale Collins Adetoba, along with seasoned resource persons, including Brigadier General (Rtd.) Hassan Lai, former Chief of Staff of the ECOWAS Standby Force.

Participants were drawn from ECOWAS Member States and represented a cross-section of the Military, Police, and Civilian components of Peace Support Operations. The ECOWAS Logistics Depot Commandant and Deputy Commandant equally took part in the exercise. Staff of the ECOWAS Commission present included the Programme Officer, Rostering and Training, Dr. Danjuma Aku, and the Programme Officer, Logistics, Mr. Baba Midjida Ligbi.

This annual training forms part of ECOWAS’ commitment to enhancing the readiness and operational effectiveness of its Standby Force and strengthening regional crisis response mechanisms in line with the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework and broader objectives for peace, security, and stability in the region.
