

Abuja, Nigeria, 18 August 2026: Six Diplomatic Missions have presented their Letters of Credence to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Dr. Omar Alieu TOURAY, for accreditation at the Commission’s new Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
The diplomats accredited by Dr. TOURAY were Her Excellency Anna WESTERHOLM, Ambassador of Sweden; His Excellency Nicolas Perazzo NAON, Ambassador of Argentina; His Excellency Ghulam Muhammad AWAN, Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC); His Excellency Walde Natangwe NDEVASHIYA, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia; His Excellency Gholamreza Mahdavi RAJA, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran; and His Excellency Mohamed Abdelaal HAROUN, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan.
Speaking after the accreditation ceremony, Dr. TOURAY congratulated the diplomats on their appointments and reaffirmed ECOWAS’ commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening its longstanding relations with their countries and organisations. He emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships in advancing global and regional peace and security, inclusive and sustainable economic development, and regional integration in West Africa.
On behalf of their government and organisation, the newly accredited diplomats thanked ECOWAS for the warm welcome and reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration with the Commission. They also pledged continued support for ECOWAS initiatives that promote peace, security, humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, and regional integration in West Africa.
