ECOWAS condemns deadly attacks in Mali

The ECOWAS Commission has condemned, in the strongest terms, the recent waves of violence in Mali, which had left several dead including a United Nations peacekeeper on 8 March 2015.
In a statement, the President of the ECOWAS Commission H.E. Kadré Désiré said: “the violent eruptions are particularly discouraging, coming in the wake of a preliminary Peace Accord aimed at paving the path for sustainable peace in Mali.”
Among those killed in the attacks were two Malian children and a Chadian peacekeeper with the UN Mission in Mali MINUSMA, while 11 other peacekeepers and three civilians were injured.
President Ouédraogo “strongly deplores these unpatriotic acts of violence and enjoins all armed groups in Mali to take the path of dialogue.”
“ECOWAS commiserates with all the families of the affected victims, stands in solidarity with MINUSMA and takes this opportunity to salute the Peacekeepers in Mali for their courage and service,” he said, and reiterated the Commission’s “support to the Government and people of Mali.”
