The institution specialises in training, applied research and international cooperation in agriculture and food security.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The delegation, composed of Mr. BOA J\u00e9r\u00f4me, Director of External Relations, and Mr. DAGNIOGO Aboubacar, Executive Assistant to the Commissioner, was welcomed by the management of CIHEAM Bari and some fifteen technical and scientific managers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Discussions focused on CIHEAM&#8217;s transnational projects in more than 40 countries, its training programmes for African executives, and its initiatives in agroecology, water management, fisheries, agri-food processing and entrepreneurship. ECOWAS presented ECOWAP, its priorities and its expectations in terms of partnership.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The campus tour, meetings with international students, and a presentation by Dr Ibrahim Mayaki, Special Envoy of the African Union for Food Systems, provided an opportunity to explore further avenues for collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the mission, both parties agreed on:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An agreement in principle to sign a MoU;<\/li>\n<li>The development of joint training and technical support programmes;<\/li>\n<li>The exploration of pilot projects in the region&#8217;s priority areas;<\/li>\n<li>And the establishment of triangular partnerships including Italian cooperation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A technical meeting is scheduled for 20 January 2026 to draw up an operational roadmap.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This mission marks an important step in strengthening ECOWAS\u2013CIHEAM Bari cooperation in the service of food security, climate resilience and sustainable development in West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A high-level ECOWAS delegation, led by Mr. SYLLA Kalilou, Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, carried out an official mission on 7 and 8 January 2026 to the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) in Bari, Italy.
